AN adventurous free multi-cultural day of play had been planned for families in West Devon next month.

The Global Village Family Playday has been designed to show children and adults what fun play can be and to take ideas back to their own communities.

It has been organised by West Devon Play Forum and will consist of a variety of workshops including A Taste of the East Drama, Flag Twirling, Music of Many Lands and an African Pottery Workshop.

The multi-cultural theme also runs into a Woolly Wonders workshop and visits to the World of Animals through recycled materials.

West Devon Borough Council's sports officer Jo Heuse will be on hand to demonstrate the innovative Top Play Bag which is full of ideas for games to play with children to develop their skills in an exciting way.

The Forum will also be holding their annual meeting at the event in a bid to raise awareness of the essential role that play has in children's lives.

All families are invited to join in the fun on July 8 at Okehampton Community College, although booking by June 30 is essential. For children under four years, a creche has been organised.
