Okehampton Cup final Chagford 2 Heavitree 1 ONLY last week Heavitree reached the final by beating Okehampton with a quality performance, but failed to repeat that when up against a side several divisions below them. Chagford were superb throughout the game and answered all the questions thrown at them by this talented Heavitree side. Heavitree enjoyed most of the possession during the early exchanges and Chagford had their keeper to thank for holding the scores level. Heavitree became frustrated and started to voice this opinion. Chagford sensed this discomfort among the Heavitree ranks and continued to keep them on the back foot. Both of Chagford?s wide players posed a threat when finding Robbie Miller cleverly moving into space behind the Heavitree defence. With the scores level at the interval it was Heavitree that pressured Chagford in the early stages of the second half. But Chagford were awarded a free kick on the half-way line and a superb delivery found Robbie Miller above the Heavitree defence to nod home the opening goal. Heavitree responded within minutes when their right winger sent in a cross that Chagford?s No 4 could do nothing with, unfortunately putting the ball in his own net. With both teams really going for the win in normal time the play flowed from end to end. Both sides missed good chances until Chagford?s No 11 swung in a cross that their substitute latched on to. He exquisitely chipped the Heavitree keeper, leaving no time to reply. Chagford pleased the large crowd that turned out to support this superb competition that has attracted the attention of some quality sides.
