Ocean league U11s Play off

Tavistock Girls . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .2

Efford Youth . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1

THIS play off was held at Kimberley Stadium, Saltash, to decide which team would win the league.

With Tavistock's defence depleted Robyn Hammond took up a defensive position alongside Hollie Shaw and Summer Piper, with Frankie Foster in goal. Jade Eales played midfield with Amy Gale and Rebecca Rose as the striking force.

The pitch was large but the girls battled well.

A through ball by Eales saw Rose unleash a smashing shot but Efford keeper managed to get a foot to it.

Efford broke through and left Foster on a one-to-one situation but Foster dashed out of goal to pull off a brave save.

Gale and Rose worked the ball up and when Gale was felled again Rose's free kick was just tipped over the bar.

Shortly before half-time a goalmouth scramble by Tavistock saw a hard shot spin off Foster's hand into the net.

The second half saw fight and determination well above their years as Tavistock battled to get one back.

Rose saw her chance half way through the second half when she ran the length of the pitch and crossed to the feet of Gale who evened the score.

Rose switched with Hammond with two minutes left to play and the game looked like going into extra time and even penalties.

Suddenly Hammond received the ball just in the Efford half and ran down the wing, rounded the defence and shot low into the far post.

Tavistock held strong for a very long two minutes to become league champions.

Player of the match: jointly, Robyn Hammond and Rebecca Rose.
