FIVE Westcountry girls' rugby teams descended on Tavistock on Sunday to play seven games.
Plymouth Albion, Exeter Saracens and Tavistock were augmented by players from Newquay and Liskeard to give an entertaining afternoon of rugby.
First on the pitch were Tavistock under 12's tag rugby team, who won with ease.
Things didn't look good for Tavistock U15 team when they went down to Exeter.
However in the second match they overcame Plymouth.
The Tavistock U18s team co-opted four Newquay players for the match against Exeter Saracens and were soon working well together. Four beautifully taken tries, each passing through several sets of hands allowed a clear 22 points to nil victory.
In their second match against Plymouth Albion, it was a much more difficult task. With Tavistock legs tiring, Plymouth's strength in the forwards battered their way towards the try line.
A fast Tavistock try in response kept the Plymouth advantage down to two points.
However, in the second half when injuries reduced the numbers on the pitch to 14 per side, Tavistock found the room to rattle in three quick tries in the space of 7 minutes to finally settle the game at 28 points to 15.
In the U15s team, there was a great display from Kim Upcott, and Bronwyn Rundle in the forwards.
Amy Neave and Lauren Dawe together with Lilly Hilson and Lucy Jones tackled and attacked with great determination.
The under 18 team was strengthened by Jo Abel's return for half term.
But Rosie Tidball, Alice Upcott, Teresa Brown gained great possession against bigger and heavier forwards. Ali Huntley played with great commitment and started several of the breakouts which led to tries.
Rachel Watson scored a deserved try after missing out on what was a certain try 5 minutes earlier. Bethany Neave and Kerry Walke were outstanding in their straight running which would have led to tries on any other day.
This was an outstanding display of rugby by all the teams.
It was fast committed rugby and a joy to watch.
The skill level has improved so much that fast error-free rugby allows the game to flow well and give continuous entertainment throughout the match.
Any girls wanting to join, will be most welcome to the training sessions on Thursday evenings at 6 pm at Sandy Park.
