HAVING won the County title last season the Callington Community College U16 girls? football team went in as favourites for this game played at Truro City FC against Redruth School and they did not disappoint. Right from the whistle Callington piled on the pressure and all the football was played in the Redruth half of the pitch. Callington?s first half stand-in keeper did not touch the ball at all and Callington led 4-0 at half time, with goals from Gemma Farley (2), Gemma Eley and Marie Wilson. Callington changed keepers for the second half with Lisa Pethick replacing Kate Bourn. Redruth came into the game a little more and Lisa did well when she was called into action. A solid defence of Natalie King, Gemma Hall and the ever present Kylie Booth tidying up right along the back line, kept Redruth in check and did not allow them any space to play in. Further goals from Marie Wilson, George Reed and Kate Bourn completed the victory. Yasmine Mullard and Mel Stephens made up the team with sparkling performances. Two players who have been involved in previous rounds but were unavailable for the final are Becky Picken and Jo Gale. Callington now progress to the National competition and await news of who they will face in the next round. It could be any one of 64 schools from the length and breadth of the country. l Photograph shows the team with Mr Wood, coach.
