Oakmedians U18s 19

Tavistock girls U18s 10

(abandoned at half time)

ON this tour of Salisbury and Bournemouth Tavistock's Bethany Neave, was in top form ably backed up by fellow centre, Fiona McCall and wingers, tackler of the match, Elsie Kirby and Molly Megicks.

Theresa Brown at fullback made two darting runs through to score both tries. Half backs Rachael Watson and Ali Huntley distributed quickly and efficiently and the pack of Jo Abel, Erin Midson-Holmes, Alice Upcott, Katy Scorer and two borrowed Oakmedians dominated the scrum.

Oakmedians scored first but Tavistock replied, straight from a long searching restart kick from Fiona McCall and an excellent move between Bethany Neave and Theresa Brown. Fiona McCall was taken off with a suspected pulled groin muscle and, despite more borrowed players, Tavistock lost another try. The visitors picked themselves up again and Theresa scored her second try, only to injured herself in the process. The decision was taken to discontinue the game before any other players were injured. Player of the match went to Bethany Neave.

The girls thank sponsors Richard Walke Motor Services and The Pool Guy.

TAVISTOCK girls played two matches against Oakmedians (Bournemouth) and the visitors showed the speed and skill to beat both home teams.

Tackling in the first match was ferocious, but having been penalised Tavistock did not respond rapidly enough to the quick penalties and allowed Oakmedians to bundle in a try in the corner. A second break-out on the left put Oakmedians 12-0 ahead. Tavistock replied with tries by Flo Rodgers and Bronwyn Rundle but they were still two points adrift.

In the second half Oakmedians pulled further away with a well taken forward rush. Time was running out for Tavistock when Annabel Longden broke out and outpaced the defence. In the dying seconds the speed of Annabel caught out the Oakmedians defence again, for her to win the match with the last play.

TAVISTOCK broke from the maul and a quick flick inside to Lauren Dawe saw her scything through the defence to score under the posts. Three more tries from Lauren Dawe, Flo Rodgers and Bronwyn Rundle all converted by Annabel Longden gave a 28 point cushion. Two tries were scored by Oakmedians in the second half as the tourists tired but it still gave a comfortable victory for Tavistock.

The excellent running of the backs was made possible by the sterling work of gaining and maintaining possession by Kim Upcott, Beth Hodgkiss and Kayleigh Gatcom in the front row.

The tackler of the tour was Amy Neave and best player Bronwyn Rundle.
