Under 14 Vivid A league Tavistock Girls U14 8 Callington Girls 1 THE first match of the season started well for last year?s double cup winners. Although the score looks good Tavistock had to work very hard for every goal as Callington were a strong side who never gave up. The first goal came from Hammond and the second came when Turner battled through the defence and passed to Hammond to net her second. Just before half time Callington pulled one back. The second half started with Turner ploughing through everyone to score her second. Again straight from kick off Rose chipped over to Hammond who volleyed the ball into the net. Tavistock played outstanding passing football but Glasspoole and Shaw at the back were kept busy and Gordon in goal rescued Tavistock after Callington ploughed forward. Glasspoole and Shaw covered well for each other and never stopped running. New signing Moody slotted well into the team and her speed down the wing cut into the defence but it was Turner and Hammond who continued to score and netted four a piece. Player of the match: Katie Glasspoole. Under 16 Leander league Tavistock Girls U16 6 Looe 2 THE girls kicked off their season with a good performance against a much improved Looe side. As opposed to last year when the girls could only field five at some matches, there were 11 girls all wanting to play. Tavistock went on the attack straight from kick off and Davey fired in some close shots. After pounding the Looe goal for several minutes Looe suddenly broke and Tavistock defenders Ellis and Eyles tidied up neatly. It took Tavistock Captain Bassett to finally break the deadlock and shoot a fine goal home. At half time Davey had found her mark and put two away. In the second half Looe came back with two goals and Tavistock were on the back foot. New signing Hopkins was strong in defence which allowed Tavistock to start pushing up again. It was nice to welcome back Heidi Davies and she soon got on the score sheet with a fine goal. McMullin went in and finished off the job to secure a win with two fine goals, one a cheeky little back flip. Player of the match: Kim Davey
