Ocean League Cup U12s semi-final Staddiscombe ......................................3 Tavistock Girls 4 ( (aet) TAVISTOCK reached their first cup final in the girls? history after a hard fought battle. With a new formation due to a key player being away and with the manager sick, stand-in manager Richard Eales had his work cut in keeping the girls motivated. Tavistock were the stronger team in the first half but shots from Rose and Hammond would not go in. Foster was busy in goal as play went from end to end. With the back three of Eales, Shaw and Gordon and then Bassett Tavistock kept play upfield. Gale on the wing made tremendous runs but Tavistock could not find the net. The second half saw Staddiscombe put good moves together and with five minutes to go they went ahead. A minute later they went 2-0 up. Most teams would have accepted defeat but Tavistock quickly pulled one back when Hammond fired home. In the dying seconds with the whistle in the referee?s mouth Shaw smashed the ball goalbound and Tavistock saw it fall out of the keeper?s hands to roll over the line. The first ten minutes of extra time saw a fantastic shot from Staddiscombe fly into the top of the net. In the last few minutes of the second half Tavistock attacked constantly and their efforts paid off when Rose equalised. Tavistock never gave up until the final whistle and shortly before the penalties would have started Rose blasted in again to take them through to the final. Player of the match: Robyn Hammond.
