YELVERTON Golf Club ladies' section played their October stableford competition, which included the first round of the Salz Trophy, on October 18.

The silver division winner was Gillie Jarvis with 36 points, second was Kay Creaven with 35 points and third was Dawn Bolt with 32 points.

The bronze division was won by Penny Hunter with 33 points, second was Shirley Cook with 31 points and third was Pat Taylor with 30 points.

The winner of the Salz trophy is the player with the highest combined score of two stableford rounds played on consecutive days. For the second round the weather was awful, with driving rain and flooded greens.

Only eight players were brave enough to play the second day, and then only four players completed the round.

Gillie Jarvis (handicap 5.8) played brilliantly, and won the trophy with 71 points. Kay Creaven also did extremely well, coming second with 67 points. Penny Hunter and Ann Ashley also completed the competition. Gillie Jarvis was the only player to do a hole in two shots.

The ladies have had two friendly matches at home this October, against Thurlestone and Bigbury, both resulting in overall wins for Yelverton.

l On Thursday November 15 the ladies are holding their annual coffee morning at Yelverton golf club at 10am. There will be a home produce stall, a bric-a-brac stall, a quiz, and golf may be played from 10.30am. bookings on the day only.
