South Zeal Utd 3

Lapford 2

SOUTH Zeal managed to do enough to beat Lapford on Saturday but were hanging on in the final 15 minutes as the visitors pushed to get something out of the game.

Zeal took the lead after 15 minutes with a fine headed goal from Darren Gilbert.

Howeveer, they could not make their superiority pay and allowed the visitors to go in at half time 2-1 up as they scored with a header from a corner and the second came when one of their strikers latched on to a underhit back pass leaving Reg Wonnacott stranded in the Zeal goal.

The home side picked themselves up at the start of the second half and went 3-2 up with two goals in the space of 10 minutes through Harley Cann.

They could have made the game safe but good chances were missed, although Darren Gilbert was denied his second goal as his effort hit the far post and rebounded to safety. Zeal were on the back foot in the last 15 minutes and only some resolute defending kept Lapford out.
