THE Tamar and Tavy Gig Club are aiming to have the oldest ever ladies crew to complete the Eddystone Challenge.

The fleet of varied rowing craft will leave Mount Batten, near Plymouth, for the 40km row around the Eddystone Lighthouse at midday on Saturday,August 16 – and as well as a men's crew from the Weir Quay based gig club, this year will feature a ladies crew who will have an average age of more than 50.

To add to the sense of achievement they are hoping to share their success with the Children's Hospice South West by raising funds from sponsorship and donations.

Within a week of Tavistock's Complete Graphics printing the sponsorship forms they had received more than £1,000 in donations.

The forms are being distributed in shops and offices in Tavistock and surrounding villages or if you would like to make a donation please contact Loveday Fethnay on either her mobile: 07810251307 or e-mail her at [email protected]">[email protected].
