THE Tamar and Tavy Gig Club entered two events this weekend. Saturday saw the men?s crew and the ladies ?A? crew racing at the Cattewater Regatta rowing in Jennycliff bay in Plymouth Sound. The ladies rowed short and crisply gaining 6th place in a strong field. The men with two new rowers on board did well in heavy seas to gain 11th place. The swell out in the Sound was a new experience for rowers used to the calm of the river. l The team entered six races on Sunday at Salcombe ? both ladies? and men?s ?A? and ?B? teams, a junior and SuperVets team (whose average age was 66). The rain did not deter the willing crews ? some of who rowed in two events. The coxes did a marvellous job yelling encouragement along the course. Women?s ?B? and men?s ?B? came in 7th place. Women?s ?A? and Men?s ?A? came in 8th place. The junior team (many of whom were novices) came in 4th place. The SuperVets came 2nd.
