A SPONSORED 'virtual row' from Bere Ferrers to Christchurch, New Zealand and back, involving the members of the Tamar and Tavy Gig Club was held to raise funds for the Red Cross NZ Earthquake Appeal.

Using two indoor rowing machines, rowers took it in turn to row non-stop starting at 8am and finishing at 4pm where one stroke represented a 'virtual mile' on the ground.

The average distance covered by each rower was 1,440 'virtual miles', totalling a distance of just under 24,000 miles achieved without leaving Bere Ferrers or even getting their feet wet!

A superb grand total of £532.31 was raised. The organisers would like to thank the rowers, local businesses and the people of Bere Ferrers for their sponsorship and support.
