This years Okehampton Urban sports day as part of Okehampton Sports and Fitness Festival saw a huge turnout and scorching sunshine.

Showers in the morning left event organiser Will Harrison, with an uncertain feeling but the weather held out and the day was a great success. Competitions were run on both the Skatepark and the Bike track with competitors ranging in age and skill; prizes were awarded for quickest times in age range and difficulty of tricks and variety in the skatepark.

Highlights from the event included Adam Keats skateboard skills,  Wayne 'Backflip' Bird's creativity on his skates and master of ceremony Joseph Gurney. Winners were Richard Mcspadden on inline skates and Jonjo on his skateboard.

Organisers gave a big thank you to everyone at Skatewarehouse.co.uk, OCRA, Okehampton Town Council, St John's Ambulance and Okehampton Lions for making the event possible.

The Okehampton Skatepark and Bike track is also in the process of a refurbishment, with locals already getting involved. There is massive support for the upgrading and upkeep of the area including full scale re-surfacing of the track and painting of the ramps, anyone wanting to get stuck in should call Ollie Jarman on 01837 55778 or Don Bent on 01837 53179.
