RESIDENTS in the Tavistock area can on-line with free taster sessions in using the internet, on offer at the town?s Library until the end of June.

The sessions form part of the national Get Started campaign to encourage non-computer users to discover the internet.

Trial one-hour sessions using the BBC?s Webwise CD which leads people through the world-wide web showing them how to use the equipment, navigate the internet and use search engines to find the information they require are on offer at all Devon?s libraries. The sessions are self-directed so people can work at their own speed.

People are being advised to book their session to make sure the computer is free for their use. Tavistock library can be contacted on 01822 612218.

Special needs equipment including magnified text on screen, text speech, larger keyboards and mice are available at Tavistock library.

Cllr Saxon Spence, Devon County Council?s portfolio holder for education said: ?This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the internet and what our libraries have to offer.

?It is particularly welcome that we are able to make facilities available in our larger libraries to assist people who have special needs.?

Get Started is particularly aimed at older people, people with disabilities, those on low incomes, ethnic minority groups, long-term unemployed and lone parents.
