A WOMAN from Chillaton will be running round Budapest at the end of the month to raise money for a cancer care charity.
Nicky Deane-Simmons is taking part in the Hungarian capital?s half marathon on August 31 and her sponsorship money will go to the Triangle Centre, a support facility for those affected by cancer############################################################################ in South West Devon.
Since May, Nicky has worked as a masseur-reflexologist with the Triangle Centre at Tavistock Hospital, St Lukes Hospice in Plymouth, and South Hams Hospital, where a patient suggested she ran for sponsorship as well as for fun.
She had entered the race with a friend who she met on a trekking holiday in Nepal, and although she was a keen half marathon runner she has not run one for about ten years.
She said: ?I run up on Dartmoor with my dogs and my husband and have been preparing for this for about three or four months ? I would be happier if it wasn?t so hot though.
?I?m sure I?ll get round the course, but I?m not so sure how fast I?ll be.
?I?m still looking for sponsors, and would be grateful for any help,? she said.
The Triangle Centre is a drop-in facility offering support for those affected by cancer, providing information, support and alternative therapies.
It is a collaboration between South Hams and West Devon Primary Care Trusts, St Lukes, Derriford Palliative CARE Team and the Mustard Tree.
Anyone who would like to sponsor Nicky can contact her at St Lukes on 01752 401172.
