THE TAVISTOCK Country Bus may be well known but now it seems news has spread to Japan!
An e-mail request from a lady in Japan to see if the bus was running from Plymouth or Exeter to Two Bridges on Saturday, January 2 was quite a surprise for committee members.
One of the team Fran Baigent said: ‘We have been going for more than 30 years but we have never had a request from this far afield before.
‘We thought Wow — Tavistock must really be on the map!’
Keiko Kurita had tracked the bus service down from its website and has since been in conversation with the group on the telephone.
‘The lady’s English is fantastic and we were happy to help her out because the bus travels from Exeter St Davids train station to Tavistock on a Saturday via the moor.
‘She is staying at the hotel and wanted to find a way of getting there safely with two big suitcases.
‘We have one bus that brings mostly elderly visitors into town from the villages that do not have any other bus services but on Saturdays we go a bit more long distance.
‘We have lovely passengers and lovely drivers that give their time free of charge and now they are going to know about that in Japan!’
