I READ with interest an article in the Times (October 17), concerning the withdrawal of parking permits for workers in Tavistock.
This was clearly a difficult decision for the authorities to make, as well as being distressing for all those affected by the proposal. However, I feel I may be able to suggest a solution to the benefit of all concerned.
The impetus behind the situation appears to be the need to ensure adequate parking facilities for the shoppers using local facilities. Also, whilst some workers found sufficient parking spaces for their needs, others were frustrated by the lack of any parking at all.
The solution seems clear: let those with the superior space
exploration techniques provide lifts for those without. Less traffic, shared expense and dissemination of expertise. It almost seems too good to be true, a real social project.
Early efforts in my scheme are dedicated toward deciding on a name and, possibly, a fancy logo. I feel it should include the key words to indicate that it is a shuttle service and intended to assist in finding a space. No doubt something will come to me before I get the mission off the ground.
Can?t understand why nobody has thought of this before.
