THE Christmas season is upon us and what better way to get into the spirit of the holiday than to join the Callington community in an action-packed day of festive fun as they switch on their Christmas lights.
This Saturday (December 5), a Christmas craft fair is taking place in Callington Town Hall selling various Christmas gifts and home-made products. Accompanying the fair will be a day of activities, with performances from the Junior Town Band, Guitarist Tony Rose, the Callington Singers and entertainment from Pirate FM. A raffle will be drawn with generous prizes including a mobile phone, hampers, free MOTs and a ride in a sports car.
Father Christmas will be taking time out of his busy schedule to attend the day, so children will have the chance to visit his grotto and get a free gift. Be sure to get your free ticket for Santa's Grotto from the town hall early, to avoid a long wait.
The Christmas tree and town lights will be switched on at 5.30pm and will be followed by a family disco in the town hall at 6pm.
Cllr Denise Winfindale, one of the organisers of the event, said there has been lots of support and donations from local companies and businesses. She said: 'It is the first year that there will be continuous entertainment. With all the work that has gone into preparing for it, we hope that everyone supports us. We want to keep doing it and hope to make it bigger. We pray it'll be dry.'
The day's activities start at 9am, and tickets are available from Callington Town Hall or Kivells.
