IT'S the big 'switch-on' in Tavistock town centre today and tomorrow.

Tonight (Thursday) at 6.45pm, the switch will be thrown to illuminate the three giant Christmas trees on the town hall — the Trees of Light, organised by Tavistock Lions Club. People donate a light in memory of a departed loved one and the funds help local charities.

Tomorrow (Friday) Dickensian Evening is combined with the switch-on of the town centre Christmas lights at 5.45pm that will set the streets dazzling for festive shoppers.

Tomorrow also sees the start of the Christmas Tree Festival in St Eustachius Church. The event gets underway at 2.30pm and lasts ten days.
