MOVING Pictures ? the community led initiative which arranges film screenings in Okehampton ? holds its first annual meeting next month. It takes place on Monday, January 10 at 7pm at the Ockment Centre, Okehampton, and is open to anyone with an interest in maintaining a film facility in the community. The meeting will be a chance to discuss how Okehampton Moving Pictures will develop in the future, as well as voting on a new constitution for the group. Moving Pictures was set up by Okehampton MCTI locality group earlier this year in response to the closure of the Carlton Cinema in St James Street. The Rev Philip Wagstaff, of the group, said there had been a very good response from the people of Okehampton to the pilot project. ?We feel it has worked very well and there has been good community support. The next phase is to try to secure funding to get our own equipment and then look at where we can go to hold a film night on a regular basis in the town.? Mr Wagstaff paid tribute to the team of volunteers who gave their help to ensure the non-profit making group was able to put on a programme of popular films.
