SLOWER joggers who are new to this form of exercise will no longer have to struggle to keep up with those more experienced, thanks to the launch of a beginners' group of Tavistock Jogging Club.

The new weekly group for complete beginners — which is being launched under the banner of 'Get jogging, get fitter, enjoy life more' — is run by the Athletic Club and will start on Tuesday, April 23. Everyone will be able to go at their own pace, so the group is suitable for adults of all ages.

Organiser Keith Bowles said the group was really for complete novices who had done little or no jogging before. 'I expect that during the first few Tuesdays there will be more brisk walking than jogging,' he said.

'They will be eased into the running process very gently and everyone's ability will be taken into account. You do not have to be able to run to joint the Joggers, or be into sport or exercise in a big way.'

Keith said that the majority of members of the Athletic Club 'just enjoy running and jogging in a sociable atmosphere, mainly to keep fit', rather than competing at a high level.

This was backed-up by comments from existing joggers, who said it was 'the best way of keeping weight down', they had 'met a great bunch of people', and 'running as a group keeps you motivated'.

The new group will meet at Tavistock College, in the classroom opposite the main entrance, at 6.15pm. More information is available from Llew Jones on 01822 614320.
