THERE will be a feast for the eyes in Calstock this festive season, as St Andrew's Church will host its first ever Christmas tree festival.

Local organisations, voluntary groups and businesses are invited to get their imaginations flowing and decorate a tree in an inventive way to represent themselves.

The tree will then be housed in the church for all to see for the duration of the festival, from December 12 to December 14.

Church social committee member Lorna Baker said: 'This will be the first Christmas tree festival we have ever done and will hopefully encourage lots of people to come in to see the trees and see our lovely 12th century church.

'We already have 15 or so groups signed up to take part, but the church will hold 30 or so trees. It will be a first come first served basis for groups wanting to take part. Each tree has to have a title and we're hoping people will come forward with unusual and original titles and decorative ideas.

'It is basically a Christmas social event and a chance to have a bit of fun.'

Businesses, groups and organisations keen to have a tree in the festival should register an interest no later than November 11.

The festival is free to enter and trees must have lights but they need to be battery operated.

During the festival, visitors can vote for their favourite tree and refreshments will be on offer on all three days. The festival will run from 11am to 4pm each day.
