OKEHAMPTON'S 'Get Changed' theatre company is seeking new volunteers. The organisation has worked with adults with learning disabilities in Okehampton and Tavistock for the last eleven years. The company meets once a week and gives its 14 members the opportunity to develop creativity and self-expression through participating in drama activities. In this fun and supportive atmosphere, members gain confidence and self-esteem through developing productions which aim to educate audiences about disability issues. But it needs new trustees and committee members to ensure its future. Bobby, a member of the company, said: 'Get Changed is fantastic, it helps me a lot. It's great to see all my friends, we have a lot of fun together. it would be awful if it had to close.' David Skrzypczak, another member, said Get Changed is 'like a big family'. 'I don't want to lose that. I enjoy taking our shows to different audiences and proving to people that we can be good actors.' Trustees play a crucial part in the running of the organisation — and are essential for it to remain as a registered charity. Their duties involve overseeing the employment of staff, controlling the finances, and generally administering the project. Without new trustees, it is feared the group may fold. In particular, Get Changed are in search of a treasurer. They also need helpers with an interest in and experience of performing arts, or working with disabled people. If anyone thinks they might be able to spare a few hours a month to help out, please contact Vicky Hooper on 07879890895 or email [email protected]">[email protected].
