AT THE age of nine months old George Smithers from Okehampton is a baby bookworm. Okehampton library has been running a promotion to encourage babies under 18 months old to join the library as part of National Bookstart Week and George was the winner of the draw. He was presented with a goodies bag containing board books and other items. Bookstart is the national programme that encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with children from as early an age as possible. Devon Library Services works closely with Health Visitors to hand out Bookstart bags to all babies around the eighth month checkup.
