CHRISTMAS is a time of giving, a time to be with family and a time to have fun! The users of the Poppy Day Centre at Wardhayes, Okehampton were treated to an afternoon of festive frivolity last Thursday, that incorporated all of those three key aspects of Christmas. A group of girls from West Exe High School in Exeter came to Okehampton for the afternoon and performed a number of dances and songs for the elderly users of the Poppy Day Centre. The performance started with stirring dance numbers to the tunes of the Irish folk song 'I'll Tell Me Ma' and the Queen hit 'Don't Stop Me Now' . This was followed by the girls changing into Santa outfits and dancing to 'Jingle Bell Rock'. They then serenaded the room by singing Mariah Carey's Christmas classic 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' . After the performance the girls handed out Christmas presents, which they had collected through their school and a nearby supermarket, to every member of their audience before tucking into some mince pies. The day was organised by Danielle Perryman, 40, for her grandmother, Lillian Johnson, 100, who uses the Poppy Centre. Danielle's daughter and Lillian's great granddaughter, Elice Perryman, 13, was one of the dancers while her son, James Perryman, 16, was in charge of the music. Many of the girls attend Sally Gray dance school in Exeter and had given up their time to make a gesture of goodwill to some of Okehampton's oldest residents.
