ON Friday January 25 I received an unexpected call from Australia. It was from Paul Wheeler who was brought up in Bere Alston in the 1950s, but who now lives in Adelaide.
Why was he calling? Because he'd read the article about the project to record the history of market gardening in the Tamar Valley, which the Times Gazette published on Thursday January 24. He wanted to share his memories with us, including information about his relation Arthur Liverton who published and printed an annual 'Tamar Valley Growers Guide' in Bere Alston.
Incredible to think that the current issue of the Times Gazette had been read in Australia before many of us had finished reading it in Tavistock!
Paul Wheeler would be delighted if you could send his best wishes to those who remember him in Bere Alston, Horrabridge and the Bere Peninsular.
