A CREATIVE art project in Okehampton 'opened its gates' on Saturday at its official opening.

The Gateway Garden on the corner of East Street and Crediton Road depicts the beautiful hills of Dartmoor with a giant mural and a 'gateway to the moors'.

Artist Jim Hamer and his daughter Beth have worked alongside Groundwork UK, Growing our Future, Okehampton College, Okehampton United Charity, Devon County Council, ITV Fixers and Dulux's Let's Colour Project, to bring a hint of the stunning environment and heritage that surrounds Okehampton and the town.

The Dulux Let's Colour Project donated 70 litres of paints for the mural.

On Saturday, cyclists from the Dulux riders' team passed through Okehampton as part of the Deloitte Ride Across Britain challenge. On the way through, they presented a plaque to commemorate the occasion and celebrated the opening of the garden with volunteers.
