Football Express Cup

Okehampton Argyle Res 1

Culm United 2

OKEHAMPTON started well when Dean Garrett hit the crossbar after 30 seconds but that was the only real highlight of the first half as they struggled to find any kind of form.

They went in at half-time goalless, mainly due to poor finishing, good defending, and a couple of good saves from both teams.

The second half was better but again the final ball let Okehampton down, the defenders of both teams winning the battle.

With just over an hour gone Culm took the lead from a corner. The original danger was cleared but a shot from the edge of the penalty area came through a crowd of players and past Colin Maddax in goal.

This sparked life into the Argyle players and within five minutes they drew level, Nicky Pollard twisting and turning in the six-yard area before stabbing his shot home.

A couple of minutes later Garrett almost put them into the lead from a short corner, his shot hitting the post.

With the game edging into injury time Culm struck the killer goal. A free kick was given just outside the penalty area for holding. Maddax dealt with it diving at full stretch to his left but on landing the ball slipped from his grasp and a Culm forward was on hand to ram it into the net.

It was a disappointing end to a rather disappointing match, a draw would have been a fair result.
