Marjons A 1
Okehampton 6
OKEHAMPTON men's hockey club were in determined mood for this rearranged fixture and keen to finish the first half of the season in style.
Okehampton pinned Marjons back into their own half. Phil Hampson, playing wide on the right set up a good platform for the other forwards and Okehampton soon earned short corners.
The Marjons' keeper made a number of saves from hard shots, but eventually pressure told and Simon Garland picked up a rebound to open the scoring. He added a second moments later.
Okehampton's third came from a flowing move on the right involving several players and Garland completed his hat-trick. John Jarvis pushing forward did well to lay on a pass to Reinier Rademaker who hammered the ball home for the fourth.
Marjons struggled to find their form and with Simon Bourne and Ted Lane marking their players well, they were unable to push very far forward.
Richard Jones added number five when he picked up a free hit on the 25 and moved into the circle to score.
Marjons showed more spirit in the second half, and Mark Clapham and Dave Dennis had to make some telling tackles.
Keith Dennis made a couple of crucial saves, and Keith Webber cleared one off the line before Marjons scored a consolation from a short corner.
Sean Glossop worked hard up front, creating chances for other players, but could not quite get his name onto the scoresheet.
Reinier added number six, and Okehampton could be pleased with their performance.
The next league game is on January 13 against PGOSBs.
