A BEAUTIFUL garden with stunning views over Dartmoor will be open to the public this weekend, in aid of charity.

The garden at The Stannary in Mary Tavy is opening on Sunday and Monday as part of the National Gardens Scheme —all proceeds from the two days of opening will benefit Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice Care and other caring charities.

The garden will be open from 11am to 5pm on both days and visitors can also enjoy lunches, cream teas and other refreshments, all home made and many using produce from the garden.

The Stannary was previously a vegetarian restaurant and is still owned by the former restaurateurs Ali Fife and Michael Cook, who now enjoy sharing their garden with visitors.

Ali said: 'It's really nice to see people wandering around the garden and simply enjoying being here. We are very fortunate to have a lovely garden and we really like to share it, whilst also raising funds for charity.'

Each year The Stannary is able to pass over to the charities more than £1,000 from the garden open days and plant sales.

The two acre garden on the edge of Dartmoor is in a naturalistic and abundant style with areas devoted to wildlife, and benefits from some spectacular views towards Princetown. The garden is mostly level so is suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Entry is £3.50, children under 12 free.
