AN OPEN Garden at the home of Melanie and Roger Baldry of Warren Lodge, Mary Tavy at the end of last month raised £305.45 for the West Country charity Send a Cow.

Cream teas and coffee were available and a cake specially decorated with a Friesian cow was provided by Cake Craft.

Thanks were expressed to them and to the providers of raffle prizes, who included Kilworthy Kapers, Somerfield, Allan Dolan and Morrisons.

Send a Cow is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, having been started by a group of West Country farmers to send dairy cows to help some of the poorest people in Uganda.

It now works in nine countries in Africa, providing training and expertise in farming methods, a range of animals and fruit trees to individuals and communities.

The charity's local ambassador, Bruce Kent, thanked the Baldrys for organising the event and everyone who attended and helped in any way.
