AN all-day buffet held in a Tavistock restaurant to raise money for the tsunami disaster appeal has raised more than £1,500, thanks to the generosity of organisers and diners. The meal was held at the Ganges Indian Restaurant in West Street, where 122 people paid £10 to enjoy the buffet meal, taking the total raised for the appeal to £1,540. Much of the money was subject to gift aid, which means the Disasters Emergency Committee can reclaim around £420 extra in tax. AK Chowdhury said: ?All the Ganges staff worked free that day and we are grateful to friends from other restaurants who came in to help cook, serve and clean up. All the food was donated by the owners of the Ganges. ?We are very grateful to the people of Tavistock who supported this appeal ? we feel it is a wonderful community achievement. In addition to those who came from Tavistock and surrounding villages, there were several parties from Cornwall, Plymouth and Okehampton.? Mr Chowdhury said a further £160 was collected in a jar on the counter of the restaurant, which will be added to the total sent to the appeal fund.
