A TEN-YEAR-OLD girl from Lifton has been announced as the winner of a Christmas card competition for Okehampton's Moorland Fuels.

The company created templates of its tanker and encouraged budding artists to turn the tanker into works of art by adding colourful Christmas designs.

Gabriela Wisniewska won the contest, and her clourful card will be sent to Moorland Fuels' customers throughout the Christmas period, and her design will be featured on the back of one of the company's tankers.

This is the second year the company has run the competition, and almost 300 children from nine different schools.

Ben More, Moorland Fuels' managing director, said: 'The standard of entry was incredibly high this year.

'Gabriela's artwork stood out from the rest because she was the only entrant who drew a nativity scene.'

Gabriela entered the competition because she likes drawing and entering art competitions.  She recently won a competition at Lifton Primary School to design the school logo. She is the second girl from Lifton Primary School to win the Moorland Fuels Christmas Card Contest, as last year's winner, Rosie Harris, is also a pupil there.

Gabriela said: 'I chose to do a traditional Christmas scene for my entry because without the story of Jesus' birth, there would be no Christmas.'

She will receive a family day out at Crealy Adventure Park, plus Moorland Fuels donated £50 to Gabriela's chosen charity of Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity.

Moorland Fuels had two runners up in this year's competition. Tobin Collier, age seven from Lydford, drew a beautiful moorland winter scene around his tanker.  Moorland Fuels chose this one as a runner-up because it complemented the company's moorland branding. He has chosen to donate his £25 to his school — Lydford Primary School.

The second runner-up was Ollie Jones, age 13 from North Tawton, who drew a very humorous Christmas card that showed Santa's legs inside the chimney. His card was chosen as one of the runners up because of the detail and the colours in his picture.

He chose to donate his £25 prize to DEC's Philippine Typhoon Appeal.
