FUNDS continue to be raised in Okehampton to finance a trip to the Southern Hemisphere planned for the summer. A coffee morning held on Saturday January 12 helped to raise £110. The money will go towards funding for the Okehampton Award Challenge Centre's (OACC) trip to South Africa in the summer. Warm thanks are extended to all those who came along and showed their support, especially to Okehampton mayor Tony Leech and his wife Sue. The OACC's next fundraising event will be a gala dinner on Saturday February 2. There will be a three course meal and live music. Tickets are available from Rob Ewen on 01837 54405. Charlotte Davey, who recently received her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Achievement award, undertook the award through the OACC. Both Charlotte and Gavin Rice, another recipient of the gold award, completed their expedition and residential project through the OACC as a combined venture in the summer of 2006. Photos of Gavin and Charlotte receiving their awards appeared in last week's Times. However, due to a misprint, the caption for Gavin read 'Price' instead of 'Rice.' l Anyone interested in getting involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, either as a participant, helper or leader, should call Chris Bourne on 01837 53797.
