A NEW local running group for complete beginners is starting up in Tavistock.
It's all part of the 'Run in England' scheme which is aimed at newcomers or anyone who hasn't put their trainers on for years. This is definitely not for experienced runners but gives everyone the chance to take regular exercise without feeling they have been left behind.
The scheme is backed by England Athletics and organised by the hugely successful Women's Running Network which has more than 3,000 lady members nationwide. Now their aims have widened to include mixed sex groups, schools, workplaces and families. It will be community based with Mhairi McCall, the 5x30 Community Activator, and Adam Holland, Tavistock's own world record holder, running the sessions.
The group meet at the green hut in the meadows every Wednesday and walk/jog/run a 1 mile course. U14s at 5pm and over 14/adults at 5.45pm. No-one is asked to do more than they feel capable of doing. At the moment the Under 14's is free as is the first adult session. From the second session the cost for adults is £2 per person.
Mhairi and Adam, who are fully trained group leaders, will make sure that you are well looked after and having loads of fun.
If you would like to give it a go, please contact Mhairi on 07891 193935 or email [email protected]">[email protected] or just turn up on Wednesday!
