A new Okehampton children?s centre, managed by Barnardo?s, will be launched this Sunday as part of OCRA?s ?Super Sporty Sunday? in Simmons Park. From noon until 3pm on July 15, the new centre will have a yurt in the park, offering all kinds of free activities connected with the natural world, for families with pre-school-age children. There will be opportunities to make masks, badges and felt animals, to have your face painted, to listen to the enchanting tales of storyteller ?Clive Pig?, to join in the musical fun with Bizzie Lizzie, or to have a go on the bouncy castle. The event, organised by Barnardo?s South West, will be the first of many to promote the new Children?s Centre in Okehampton, which will offer support to parents with children aged under five. This will include everything from baby massage classes, to a breast-feeding café, to a general ?sign-posting? or information service for families with young children. In the coming months there will be lots of opportunities to be involved in shaping the services that will be on offer through the centre, which is funded by the Home Office Surestart initiative, through the Devon Children?s Trust.
