OKEHAMPTON Primary School was the place to be on Saturday when it held its ?Family Learning? event where fun for all the family was guaranteed with a host of colourful and entertaining characters. The event follows on from the previous year?s family learning day, which had been arranged by the local family Learning Activity Group. There were many new events as well as old favourites such as storyteller Clive Pig, circus skills with Professor Fumble and kite making with Brookite, multisport and archery with OCRA. Other events included environmental arts and crafts workshop using natural materials to create works of art such as dreamcatchers. There was also DrumCrazy, Workshop Under the Sky ? where local artist Jenny Hale helped children and parents investigate the natural world through painting and drawing ? camping skills including building camp fires and cooking, and The Bigfoot Theatre Company who ran drama workshops. This year?s event was funded by Okehampton Educational Foundation, Okehampton Rotary Club and Okehampton Lions. Headteacher of Okehampton Primary School Brian Cunningham said both he and Okehampton librarian Susie Hewitt, who were the main organisers, felt the day had been a great success: ?Clearly everybody who went had the same opinion because we asked them to fill in an evaluation sheet,? said Mr Cunningham. ?Comments were made that the children really loved it, they learnt a lot and there was a lovely range of activities.? More than 50 families registered for the day. ?The weather was glorious and perfect for the outdoor activities,? added the headteacher. ?Everyone also enjoyed a picnic lunch outside.?
