THE SUN shone on Monkokehampton Jubilee Fun Day recently bringing the crowds out to enjoy the celebrations.
Thanks to the support on the day and associated fundraising events, Monkokehampton Social Committee was pleased to present a cheque for £250 to the New Okehampton Hospital.
After the official opening, by celebrity Ron Bendall, people of all ages joined in activities from face painting to pony rides, clay pigeon shooting as well as enjoying live music and the entertaining rubber duck race.
The adults made a brave attempt to relive their school sports day and duo Ned and Martha entertained the crowds. Sisters Megan, Verity and Emily Hansen, dressed as characters from a nursery rhyme, won the fancy dress competition. To round off the day, guests were warmed by a large bonfire and witnessed a display of fireworks.
To whet the community's appetite for the fun day, the committee also organised several fundraising events including a pub quiz, car treasure hunt and a wine and wisdom evening.
Committee chairman Gail Butler said: 'The social committee is new to the village and we were not sure how the events would be received.
'However, the encouragement and support we were given was wonderful and due to popular demand we now plan to organise more events throughout the year.
'On behalf of the committee I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who sponsored, supported and attended the fun day.'
