THIS weekend Tamar and Tavy Gig Club celebrated a fantastic year's rowing when they held their annual awards presentation evening at the Bere Ferrers Social Club.
After an excellent feast provided by club members the following awards, voted for by members, were presented by club Chairman Rob Mackintosh-Smith.
The individual's squad award for the person who has contributed most to the squad during the year was presented to Jo Cameron for the ladies' squad; Russell Bayliss for the mens' squad; Martin Painter for the veterans' squad and Jess James-Fone for the junior squad. Best newcomer award went to Wendy Maclean, who was voted the most promising new rower of 2010. Club member of the year award was given to Jo Cameron and Ruth Walker was presented with the chairman's award.
The Golden Thole Pin awarded for the most comic or bizarre moment of the year went to John Rogers for his incredible coxing in the Clovelly to Lundy challenge.

As always the club was grateful for the support of Bere Ferrers Social Club.
Tamar and Tavy Gig Club is currently in training for the coming season, looking forward to the first event which will be the Three Rivers Race at Saltash and then the Pilot Gig World Championships in the Isles of Scilly.
A full winter training schedule is available for members including, indoor rowing, circuit training as well as outdoor rowing in their recently launched all weather glass fibre gig.
