THE pupils of Princetown Primary school bopped 'til they dropped at their lunchtime disco last Friday, to raise money for the Haiti appeal.

The disco, the idea of year five and six pupils Phoebe Still, Merlin Brooks, Angel Brooks, Jemma Webber and Billy Rowe, raised £54.67 for the cause.

The pupils organised the disco and provided their own music, crisps and drinks.

Ali Hirst, head teacher at Princetown Primary, thought the disco was a great success.

She said: 'There are 54 children in our school and they each brought in a pound. The idea totally came from them, they organised it all and brought everything in. They had a fabulous time and it was very successful.

'Some of the older children had a dancing competition, and the older boys are into street dancing so they did a demonstration.'

Mike Kinsey, a parent of one of the pupils at the school, said the children had a lot of fun.

He said: 'As well as having fun, it was a good lesson in world awareness, social responsibility and organisational skills. It fitted well with the younger children's current topic on "people who help us", and was in effect a good PE lesson as the kids danced and conga'd around the hall.

The children have shown great awareness and concern at the events in Haiti, and really wanted to do something to help. Many have said how lucky they are to have a home, school and to be able to have food and drink without worrying where it will come from.'
