FOLLOWING the news of the successful lottery application to refurbish Spreyton Hall, villagers came out to celebrate at an extraordinary meeting of Spreyton Trust recently.
The village was awarded £193,950 to strip back the old army hut, which has been used as the village hall for half a century, back to its foundations and create an up-to-date venue for the community.
Funding from the village and friends of the village currently stands at around £40,000.
Architects and quantity surveyors have been appointed from Newton Abbot and it is hoped work will start in July and be completed within 12 months.
A sub-committee of the trust will design the kitchen and select appliances and a new bar will be created by John Filor. There will be changing rooms, heating and hot water will be oil-fired.
Newsletters will be sent out periodically to tell the community what is going on.
Those present at the meeting expressed their gratitude for the hard work and tenacity shown by the trust leaders especially Joe Hall and Rob Henderson. Tribute was also paid to Bill Porritt and Richard Stacey for their technical advice and support.
