Duchy Premier Boscastle 0 Gunnislake 0 GUNNISLAKE played the better football throughout and were the only side to create scoring chances. However, an extremely strong wind proved to be a leveller and so enabled the hosts to stifle the game and earn themselves a point. For the most part of the opening period Gunnislake's Stef Kelly controlled the midfield. In this period a Nathan Dore through pass set Jarryd Kelly free and his 20 yard effort struck the crossbar. Paul Heath and Dore each came close with headers as did Stuart Wakenshaw and Wayne Mousella with long range strikes. Against the wind in the second period the visitors found less openings but still kept Boscastle at bay as keeper Andy Brenton continued to sweep rather than have shots or crosses to deal with. A few shots did come from Gunnislake but the home keeper made some good saves including excellently palming away a Dore effort in the last minute. Duchy Division 5 Gunnislake 6 Looe reserves 0 FOLLOWING last weeks 4 - 3 cup win away at Looe, Gunnislake knew the visitors would not be a push over and management duo Steve Gaggini and Joe Pulley were forced to make a number of changes due to work commitments and injury. Neil Kinger returned to lead the side from the centre of the park, Pulley slotted in alongside Gaggini at centre half and Simon Wakeham was welcomed back at full back. Early exchanges were even but Gunnislake settled first and after 20 minutes Andy Southcott scored a sublime chip over the opposing keeper. Ian Gray in the Gunnislake goal came to the rescue on three separate occasions and a goal line clearance was made by Pulley to keep the scoreline to 1 - 0 at half time. Dean Martin, who was sidelined due to injury, gave an inspiring team talk during the interval and it helped to push Gunnislake forward and take the game to Looe. Southcott was presented with numerous chances but found the Looe keeper in fine form. Hardworking Aaron Pethick went close with a couple of efforts and Ashley Dobson was providing a constant threat from the right wing. Gunnislake went 2 - 0 ahead when good work from Adam Brimacombe and Southcott ended up in an own goal. The home side turned up the heat and Southcott was fouled inside the penalty area, Gary Smith took the penalty for 3-0. Smith was to make it 4-0 midway through the second half when Dobson delivering a great corner and Smith rose above the defence to head home. Gunnislake threw on all three substitutes and Darren Sambells benefited from unselfish work by Southcott to make it 5 - 0. Gunnislake completed their scoring when full back Al Doidge made a 60 yard run with the ball beating two players and delivering a cross which the Looe defence could only turn into their own net. l The reserves visit Pelynt this Saturday hoping to continue the form which sees them joint top of division five. The premier side host league leaders St Newlyn East. Both games kick off at 2.30pm.
