FAMILIES from across West Devon descended on Downtown Farm near Lydford last weekend to find out more about wildlife, farm animals and rural crafts.
The event was run by Devon Wildlife Trust as part of its regular Wildlife Watch programme which aims to give families a range of outdoor experiences at different locations around Devon.
The 'Down on the Farm' event allowed participants to meet the sheep and tiny newborn lambs, as well as the rare White Park cattle.
Wool from the sheep could be seen as it was spun. Children had the chance to try their hands at spinning and weaving the wool on home made mini-looms, or at dyeing it in pans of natural materials gathered from local hedgerows.
Many people took the opportunity to create intricate willow ornaments to take home.
In another corner of the farmyard a dry stonewall demonstration took place and two 5ft structures were erected.
Event organiser Sue Sykes said: 'It was a great opportunity for families to experience the whole process, from new born lambs to woolly jumpers.
'Our aim was to help people better understand how our countryside is a living, working place as well as being home to wildlife.'
