THE fastest frog in the West will be found in Northlew next week as the unusual sport of frog racing is revived. However, animal lovers need not reach for the phone ? the frogs in question come in many different colours and are made of plywood! Four frogs are required per race and organiser Martin Perry says bystanders are quickly sucked into the excitement of the race. The races will take place as part of a garden party in aid of Tukae at Elmfield, Northlew on July 29, organised by the three churches working together. Tukae is a small charity that works in aid of the people in North East Tanzania ? some of the poorest in the country. This year they have established a workers co-operative in one of the villages and some of their work will be on sale. Gifts and donations can be made on the day or preferably beforehand by ringing Martin Perry on 01409 221376 or by contacting any of the churches in Northlew or the Roman Catholic Church in Okehampton. The party will be officially opened at 2.30pm by BBC Radio Devon?s Douglas Mounce, with the first race getting underway soon after.
