MORE than £550 has been raised for Derriford Hospital?s Moorgate Ward by friends of a young Tavistock man, who was recently rushed in as an emergency case after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
Shay Hunn, 20, now sports an impressive six inch scar and is gradually recuperating after his life-saving operation in September.
He said hospital staff cannot say what caused his haemorrhage ? at the time, he thought he was suffering from a virus.
?I was resting but didn?t know I was having a haemorrhage ? it was pretty freaky. I was pretty dazed throughout most of it,? said Shay, who was in Moorgate Ward for two weeks.
?They said I could have been born with it or it could?ve been caused by a skating accident I had about two years ago,? said Shay, who was full of praise for the nursing staff at Derriford.
?They were excellent, they really were,? he said.
In support of the hospital?s staff, family friends Laurie Hill and Nick Massey offered to raise money by competing in last Sunday?s Tavy Seven race. They completed the seven-mile course in just over one hour.
