THE Friends of Okehampton Hospital recently purchased equipment for the physiotherapy department of the hospital.
The equipment included a cross trainer, an exercise bike, rowing machine and various balance equipment that will all be used in a widespread variety of conditions involving musculo/skeletal physiotherapy for patients suffering from lower back pain and neurological conditions or those requiring postoperative treatment, balance rehabilitation and other treatments.
Martin Perry, chairman of the Friends group, said when presenting the equipment that he was grateful to the public of Okehampton for supporting the Friends and enabling the committee to fund the equipment, that cost in excess of £2,100.
He said: 'We hope more of the public will come forward to join the Friends and assist us to continue the work in supporting our local hospital.
'Membership remains at £10 a year or 20p a week, but subscriptions and our fundraising are vital in these days of austerity when NHS budgets are being squeezed.'
Senior physiotherapist Nick Blade said he was thrilled to have this new equipment, which will make a 'huge' difference and help a great many patients, including those recovering from a stroke or coping with Parkinson's Disease.
Members of the public wishing to join the Friends group should contact treasurer Ann Lane on 01837 659671 or the chairman on 01409 221376.
