ECVH 4

Okehampton Columbines 2

THIS was a good-tempered hockey friendly to start off the Columbines' season.

ECVH had played the previous weekend and it showed — there was greater accuracy in their passing and they were the more alert of the two sides.

Okehampton started well and were pressing forward, but were stunned when ECVH scored in almost their first attack.

Columbines equalised shortly afterwards when a Sue Stanbury strike from a short corner was cleverly deflected in by Jo Moppett.

With the Columbines struggling with the heat ECVH took the half-time score to 3-1 with two goals in quick succession. It would have been more but for the goalkeeping of Sharon Stephens.

Okehampton looked more organised in the second half, passing out of trouble instead of playing the ball straight back to the opposition.

Sandy Douglas had a strong game at left back cutting out a number of good ECVH crosses. Sarah Toms worked hard on the left-wing but it was inevitable that Jo Moppett would score the Okehampton second goal, again from a set piece.

ECVH scored another goal where a ball that looked like it was going wide crept in on the left hand post.

The second half was more even and there were plenty of positive points for Columbines to take from the game for their match this week at home against Teignmouth.
