TAVISTOCK Tennis Club had a restricted match programme in the league last week, when there was only one senior match and one junior match was a w/o for Tavistock.
The club won an enjoyable friendly match against Launceston.
Results: Ladies' B team won 8-1 away to St Budeaux D which was a good result for the Club. Sue Parsons and Tric Mowle v their 1st pair 6-3, 6-3; v 2nd pair 6-4, 6-2. Olga Rogers and Nikky Hoar v their 1st pair 7-6, 6-2; v 2nd pair 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
Juniors: A team won 6-2 away to Hill Lane B. Nick Simpson v their 1st player 2-6, 5-7. Tom Bruce and Will Simpson v their 1st pair 6-1, 7-5. Tom Bruce v their 2nd player 6-3, 6-0. Nick and Will v their 2nd pair 6-1, 6-4.
B team away to Saltash A, w/o to Tavistock as Saltash were unable to raise a team.
C team lost 4-6 away to St Budeaux. Russell Rice v their 1st player, 2-6, 4-6. David Rose and James Martin v their 1st pair 3-6, 7-6, 6-2. David Rose v their 2nd player 2-6, 2-6. Russell and James v their 2nd pair, 2-6, 7-5, 8-6 which was the longest individual match with some long and hard fought games.
D team won 8-1 at home against Yelverton B which was their first win of the season. Sara Whyman v their 1st player 6-2, 6-0. Sara and Anna Maunder v their 1st pair 7-5, 6-2. Joanne Solman v their 2nd player 6-4, 6-2. Joanne and Anna v their 2nd pair 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.
Friendly match: Tavistock won 6-4 at home against Launceston which was a pleasant afternoon's tennis in a balanced match with some close games, as depicted by the three short set tie breaks.
Anne Dicker — who kindly turned out at short notice — and Alan Bruce v their 1st pair 6-1, 6-5 (7-5); v 2nd pair 6-2, 6-4. Annie Bruce and John Burgess v their 1st pair 2-6, 5-6 (4-7); v 2nd pair 2-6, 6-3. Ladies' doubles one set only, 5-6 (5-7) which was the highlight of the afternoon. Men's doubles 6-1.
