TAVISTOCK Tennis Club has had a series of friendly matches to maintain competitive play with other clubs after completion of the annual league programme.
v Bovey Tracey at home, won 5-3 where it was unfortunate that Dick Symes, playing in his first match for the club, suffered a recurring injury and could only play the first individual match. A substitute man could not be found but Anthea Kersey stood in, partnering Melody Mason, who together drew the second match against the mixed pair which was crucial to the overall win. Team: Kylie/David Martin 4-0 sets, Melody Mason/Dick Symes and Anthea Kersey as sub, 1-3 sets. Time did not permit ladies' and men's doubles.
v St Budeaux away, drew 6-6 in a competitive match with some good hard fought games. St Budeaux had two strong pairs as mixed doubles players, Tavistock winning only two sets out of the eight but proved much stronger in the ladies' and men's doubles, winning all four sets so squaring the match overall. Team: Sue Parsons/Simon Thomas and Josie Gerhold/John Burgess.
